All companies take on the personality and philosophy of their most integral players and Spellman Travel Partners is no exception. Bob Spellman has left an imprint on incentive travel that is impossible to remove on the business, fostering a true “partnership” atmosphere that provides first-class trips for its clients.
Bob Spellman - President
Bob has been in the hospitality industry for 40 years and in that time has been fortunate enough to work in many different segments of our industry. Bob has personally handled more than 600 incentive travel programs, conferences and meetings in 62 countries and more than 132 destinations around the world. He has been a frequent contributor to trade magazines and has lectured at the George Washington University Graduate School of Travel and Tourism.
Bob has been a guide in 11 different countries, lived in Venezuela, and started his own DMC in Santo Domingo. From 1976 to1980, Bob was Vice President – Operations of Royal Holidays, the company that handled all of the group travel in Western Europe for the American Automobile Association. During this time he lived in Spain and was part owner and operations VP of DMCs in Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, and Monaco. He had a staff of 100 and he had the pleasure of hosting over 100,000 visitors in 10 countries and 18 cities.
In 1980 Bob returned to Boston as V.P. of the newly formed Heritage Meetings & Incentives.
In 8 years the business grew from 16 groups in the first year to more than 200 groups in 1988. Then Heritage became part of Thomas Cook/American Express. His philosophy is “bigger is not always better”, and group travel is certainly no exception. So, in 1989 Bob became an independent consultant, began Spellman & Friends and in 2001 Spellman Travel Partners was founded and the rest is history (ours anyway). Bob is fluent in Spanish and conversant in Italian, French and German.
